Susan Jones PhD

Sue obtained a first-class degree in Pharmacology from King’s College London and a PhD from University College London. She then moved to the USA, working as a postdoc in research labs at the National Institutes for Health, Duke University Medical School and Brown University. She moved to Cambridge as a Group Leader and Assistant Professor in 2002. Her research lab has a general interest in neuronal and synaptic physiology in normal brain function and in brain disorders. She currently focuses on hypothalamic neurons during puberty and amygdala neurons during addictive behaviours. Sue teaches undergraduate medical and science students in neuroscience and physiology, and was a 2022 Pilkington Prize Winner for excellence in teaching at the University of Cambridge. She has taught neuroanatomy to undergraduate medical students since 2002 and is currently the organiser of the Human Neuroanatomy course.
